Halloween Fun Time With 'Goosebumps'...

Another show that I liked as kid was called Goosebumps which played every afternoon on the Fox Kids Network. The show itself is based on the books by the same name and like Are You Afraid of the Dark, it told stories of horror but only a little scary for the kids.

Right now, you can catch episodes of the show airing on The Hub Network. But if you don't have cable or Satellite service that carries the network on their programming line up, then no worries, I've have a show posted from YouTube below.

So sit back and relax and enjoy the programming....

And as always, have a very safe Happy Halloween...

Halloween Fun Time With 'Are You Afraid of the Dark'...

One of my favorite shows when growing up was watching Are You Afraid of the Dark on Nickelodeon in the 90's. It would come on every Saturday night on the station on a segment they called Snick. I was always easily scared when I was a kid but for some reason, I always was able to watch this show and knowing that when it had gotten too scary for me, I could always change the station until the 'scary parts' were over. Needless to say, I continued to watch the show until it's end some time in the late 90's.

So as part of the Halloween season, I decided to find some of these shows on YouTube and place them here on the site for some Halloween fun time. I hope you guys enjoy the show...

Halloween Movies for the Family

It's that time of year again, the leaves changing, the days getting shorter. It means one thing, fall is and and with it my favorite holiday (besides Christmas), Halloween. so this time around, instead of doing what I do in the past by sharing memories of halloween past and sharing halloween decorations with things sitting around your house. None of that this time.

This time around, I thought I would share a few family movies for little ones in your family (or if you're like me, young at heart and want to let the inner kid out). So here are some movies (in my opinion) you should watch and it won't keep your kids up at night either.

Animaniacs: Spooky Stuff

Rated: Not rated Year: 1993 Cast: Voices of Rob Paulsen, Jess Harnell, Tress MacNeille
Inkblot sibs Wakko, Yakko, and Dot run amok in six skits featuring Frankenstein, the Grim Reaper, and the big baddie himself, Satan.

Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
Rated: Not rated Year: 1948 Cast: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello
It's a monster mash when Abbott and Costello meet Count Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman. The
hapless duo are baggage handlers who encounter more than one classic screen monster in McDougal's House of Horrors and become part of a plot to give Frankenstein a new and feebler brain -- Costello's.

Casper, Casper Meets Wendy

Rated: PG, G Year: 1995, 1999 Cast: Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci, Hilary Duff, Cathy Moriarty
Ghost for tweens: Ghost meets girl, ghost saves girl. Can ghosts and girls, or ghosts and witches, really be friends, or (gulp) more? In the first film, Ricci is the daughter of a paranormal psychiatrist who makes house calls to the mansion where Casper and his uncles haunt. In the second, Duff is a fledgling witch, who must flee to a Catskills resort with her three aunts to escape a warlock

Hocus Pocus

Rated: PG Year: 1993 Cast: Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker, Thora Birch, Omri Katz
Max is a California teen whose family relocates in Salem, Massachusetts, where local lore has it that the three Sanderson sisters will return to wreak havoc. The three witches are intent on getting eternal youth and beauty the old-fashioned way -- by sucking the life force out of children.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Rated: Not rated Year: 1966 Cast: Voices of Peter Robbins, Christopher Shea
Oh, nothing compares to the breathless suspense of Halloween, except for maybe Christmas. Linus and Sally wait all night in the pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin to appear, Snoopy is in high-flying form as an ace pilot, and the gang compares their Halloween loot.

The Little Vampire

Rated: PG Year: 2000 Cast: Jonathan Lipnicki, Anna Popplewell, Rollo Weeks
Tormented souls can be sweet, or at least they are to Tony, a lonely American boy who dreams of vampires. In Scotland he finds a soulful family of bloodsuckers who harbor a secret craving: to become human. Magic amulets, comets, vampire hunters, and a herd of flying vampire cows add clever and startling mischief to an entertaining yarn.

The Witches

Rated: PG Year: 1990 Cast: Anjelica Huston, Jasen Fisher, Rowan Atkinson, Mai Zetterling
Huston is the Grand High Witch who presides over a convention of cackling, scheming witches in a sleepy seaside British hotel. It's up to Luke, a brave 6-year-old, to stop their evil plan to turn the world's children into mice, using chocolate as the lure.

The Worst Witch

Rated: G Year: 1986 Cast: Fairuza Balk, Tim Curry, Charlotte Rae, Diana Rigg
Mildred is the new student at a very proper British boarding school for witches, where the lesson plans include flying in formation and concocting laughing potions.

That is my list of halloween movies that I recomend for your little ones to watch or if you're like me, let your inner kid out every now and then. If these aren't enough for you and your family then here is a link to another blog site called Family - Friendly Halloween Movie Countdown

And Remember folks, have a safe and Happy Halloween.

Voilinist Got Talent

When I was younger and going to school, I played the violin. Yes, I played an instrument when I was going to school. Anyway, I played the violin all the way through high school and I had always wanted to play one ever since I could remember. The reason for my choice of instrument was due to two reasons, one, my favorite detective Sherlock Holmes and two, one of my elementary school teachers who was at one time my second grade teacher. (she now teaches her favorite subject, music.) Of course, I don't play anymore because I chose another path in life after getting out of high school but that doesn't mean that I don't pick it up every now and then and play it. However I do stumble upon some pretty talented violinists every once in a while like this guy on you tube...

A Childhood Memory Never Forgotten

I grew up with parents who had me when they were in their forties. I am now 29 years old as I write this and by the time some of you read this post, I will have turned 30. Both of my parents are now in their seventies and one of my memories from childhood, I remember well...

Most of my friends now that I love to crafts and share crafting ideas and I owe this to my parents. You see both of my parents used to do a lot of crafts when I was a kid and growing up, it was part of my life. You see, my parents grew up during WWII, well they were born in '40 and '41 when it was just after America had joined the war after Pearl Harbor was bombed. so they were 4 and 5 when the war ended. During that time, one of the ways, my parents entertained themselves was sewing, knitting and crocheting things. And even in their forties they continued to do these things. Both parents sewed and crocheted and my mom, knitted but only on occasions when some one had requested her to knit something for them. And I grew up knowing how sew and Crochet but mainly sewing, didn't have the patients to crochet, nor do I now.

Every Halloween, my parents never did go and buy me a costume at the store like other parents did. No, they always made mine by hand and nobody never complained about it because they always did such a good job at making it. just between me and you, I believe that some of the other kids were jealous of this because none of their parents didn't sew. Plus, my parents were very popular with the teachers in my elementary school because I was constantly bring a finished crocheted product to school in a small brown box with a lid to keep the said item from being crushed in book bag. If one of the teachers ordered a quilt from them, then they would always deliver the quilt in person, either before or after school.

Out of all of this, there is one thing I remember most. My parents used to have this cast iron and oak sewing machine and it didn't run on electricity. It was foot pedal driven with a leather belt strapped to two wheels. They would use it more than the modern sewing machine because it was a hundred years old and it was a family heirloom from my dad's side of the family. For it being a hundred years old, it was still in good condition and it never failed in what my dad used it for. (Picture is not of the one we used to own. But it is similar to how I remember it it looking like.)

I remember playing with that foot pedal when my parents wasn't using the machine. I played with it because of the sound it made when I pressed the pedal, it always sounded like the wheels of train when in motion and I loved it greatly. Because of this, my dad would always call me over when ever his feet would get tired of pushing the pedal and it was always done on the weekends when there wasn't any school. Oh how I loved that old sewing machine and I probably will never see one again, especially one that is made from oak. It wasn't until after my parent's divorce and my dad moving to Alabama to stay with my cousin that I would never see that old sewing machine again.

So I now invite you to share your own child memories that has never faded from time. It may be like my own memory or it may be another memory of something else totally different. What ever it is, please leave a comment and share your own memory...
